  Substance Attributes

  • Metabolic Interference or Disruption

Interferes with human metabolism. This can be a very serious thing. Some of these interference mechanics are well established. However, often long term effects and health consequences remain largely unknown. Additionally an emerging area of concern and one that is not currently studied, is the combined synergistic effects these metabolically disrupting chemicals have on human health.

Metabolic interference happens when the substance produces highly reactive and often damaging intermediates during detoxification or when the substance binds to specific enzymes, important structural groups on molecules, receptors and membranes or targets DNA or mimics key nutrients.

  • Exposure Produces Health Symptoms

Symptoms maybe short term or long term depending on the exposure duration and intensity and effects areas like Cardiovascular, Gastrointestinal, Cognition, Fatigue. A substance with this attribute may cause an allergic skin reaction, serious eye irritation, allergy or asthma symptoms or breathing difficulties if inhaled.

These attributes are ONLY based on peer-reviewed evidence. See link to Data Sources below. Everyone benefits from knowing this stuff. Please Share.

  • CATEGORIES: Pesticide | Synthetic Toxin | PESTICIDE active ingredient | organic | rodenticide | Pesticide or Plant Growth Regulator Approved in Australia | Pesticide approved in USA (California) | Pesticide approved or pending approval in EU
  • SUBSTANCE LINEAGE: Organic Compounds | Phenylpropanoids and Polyketides | Diarylheptanoids | Linear Diarylheptanoids | Linear Diarylheptanoids
  • SYNONYMS: Boldo | Boot hill | Bromadiolon | Bromatrol | Bromodialone | Bromodiolone | Bromone | Bromore | Broprodifacoum | Canadien 2000 | Contrac | Contrax | Eradic | MAKI | Rafix | Ratimus | Rotox | Sup'operats | Super-caid | Super-cald | Super-rozol | Temus | Topidion
  • DESCRIPTION: Bromadiolone is a potent anticoagulant and rodenticide. It is a second-generation coumarin derivative, often called a "super-warfarin" for its added potency and tendency to accumulate in the liver of the poisoned organism. (L1258)
  • COMMENTS: Residues of this pesticide are NOT tested for on Australian Foods even though the Pesticide is approved in Australia. This is partly so because this pesticide is not usually used around food agriculture. | Pesticide approved in Australia

  Health Associations

Mostly focused on Health Implications of Long Term Exposure to this substance

  • SYMPTOMS: Bromadiolone initially causes dehydration before progressing to bleeding complications. (L1257)
  • POSSIBLE HEALTH CONSEQUENCES: Bromadiolone is an anticoagulant and causes internal bleeding, leading to shock, loss of consciousness, and eventually death. (L1257) |
  • ACTION OF TOXIN: Bromadiolone inhibits the enzyme Vitamin K epoxide reductase. This enzyme is needed for the reconstitution of the vitamin K in its cycle from vitamin K-epoxide, and so bromadiolone steadily decreases the level of active vitamin K in the blood. Vitamin K is required for the synthesis of important substances including prothrombin, which is involved in blood clotting. This disruption becomes increasingly severe until the blood effectively loses any ability to clot. In addition, bromadiolone increases permeability of blood capillaries. The blood plasma and blood itself begins to leak from the blood vessels, causing internal bleeding leading to shock, loss of consciousness, and eventually death.   Exposure Routes

These are the Exposure Routes we have so far for this substance. There are almost certainly more. We update this section regularly. The number of chemicals with 2 or more nastiness attributes in an exposure route is shown in orange. They grey badge shows the total amount of chemicals within the exposure route.
